Constipation can be described as less than three bowel movements per week or less than the usual pattern. Usually, the waste material has become compact and hard, making evacuation painful. It can result from a variety of causes, such as lack of exercise, insufficient water or fibre in the diet, ignoring the urge, stress and tension, or medical conditions (eg. intestinal obstruction and irritable colon). In the majority of cases constipation is a consequence of lifestyle factors and can be corrected through diet and exercise.

Herbal Laxative contains senna and buckthorn which have been traditionally-used for hundreds of years because of their characteristic laxative actions. We now know these herbs contain a unique scientifically-proven class of substances called 'hydroxyanthracenes'. I have blended these herbs with the non-active herbs psyllium, dill and liquorice to ensure a pleasant taste and gentle laxative action.

Oral Use:
Active ingredients: Each 5 mL level metric spoon contains Senna Leaf Dry (Cassia angustifolia and / or C. senna) 1.75 g, Frangula Bark Dry (Rhamnus frangula) 150 mg. Non-active ingredients: Psyllium Seed Dry (Plantago afra and / or P. indica), Anethum graveolens Fruit Dry (Dill), Liquorice Dry (Glycyrrhiza glabra).

Indications: Senna and Frangula are classified as “stimulant laxatives” which have a unique action on digestive tract walls helping to increase bowel movements and relieve constipation.

Directions for use:

Add one 5 mL level metric spoon to a glass of water or fruit juice and stir well. Allow to stand for 5 to 10 minutes before drinking. Adults - drink 1 cup daily before bedtime.
Recommended duration of use is 2 weeks.

Prolonged use may cause serious bowel problems. Do not use when abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting are present or if you develop diarrhoea. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding - seek the advice of a healthcare practitioner before taking this product. Drink plenty of water.
Use in children under 12 years is not recommended.
